What these examples show

Four videos made with Tailor Chapters, shown in full rather than clipped. They are short on purpose: each was built to play at a specific moment, and the length follows from that rather than from how many photographs were available.

Watch the pacing rather than the pictures. It is the thing that separates a slideshow a room can follow from one it cannot, and it is the only part you cannot judge from a screenshot.

A tribute video, 49 seconds

a tribute video / 0:49

Short, because it was made to open a service rather than sit inside it. At three to four seconds a photograph, forty nine seconds carries around fifteen images: enough for one arc, not enough for a life. The longer version played later at the reception.

A memory video, 49 seconds

Chronological, opening on a photograph from long before the room’s own memory of the person. The early images hold slightly longer than the recent ones: older photographs take a beat more to read, and the pacing follows that rather than a fixed interval.

A memory video, 36 seconds

The shortest of the four, and the one that shows the value of restraint. Around a dozen photographs, each held long enough to be seen properly. Families almost always want to include more than this. The room almost always prefers fewer.

A wedding memory video, 54 seconds

Included because the construction is identical and only the tone changes. If you are here for a retirement, a milestone birthday or an anniversary rather than a funeral, this is closer to what yours would look like.

What they have in common

Three to four seconds a photograph. It is the single decision that decides whether the room keeps up, and every example here respects it.

One song, one arc. None of these switches track halfway through. The join is audible when it happens, and a room in mourning reads it as a mistake.

Fewer photographs than the family wanted. This is true of all four. The version that plays is always shorter than the version first sent to us, and it is always better for it.

Plain transitions. Nothing that draws attention to the software rather than to the person.

What an example cannot show you

A slideshow is judged in a room, not on a phone. These look like short films here, and at a service they behave differently: the screen is larger, the room is silent, and a photograph that reads instantly on a laptop takes longer to land at the back of a hall.

That is the practical reason for three to four seconds rather than two. It is not about the video, it is about the distance between the screen and the last row.

The other thing an example hides is the choosing. Every one of these took the family longer to select photographs for than it took us to build. That part does not compress, and it is the part worth spending time on.

How long they took

Each came back to the family within minutes of the photographs and the song arriving.

The families spent between one evening and three days gathering photographs. That is the real timeline of a funeral slideshow, and it is why we do not add a production queue on top of it.

If the service is tomorrow, say so when you send the files. It costs nothing to tell us and it changes how the order is handled.

Why the faces are generated

Every face in these four videos is generated rather than photographed, and it is worth being direct about why.

Showing real examples would mean publishing photographs of somebody’s late parent on a marketing page. Families give us their photographs to make one video, not to illustrate a website, and no consent form makes that a comfortable trade.

The pacing, the transitions and the construction are identical to what you receive. Only the faces are not real.

Yours

Send your photographs and the song. There is no limit on how many photographs, and no need to sort them first.

Tell us where it will play, since that decides the length: during the service, as people arrive, or on a loop at the reception.

The finished video comes back in minutes, as a file you keep.
